Pros and Cons of Nose Tip Rhinoplasty Using Dermal Filler

Rhinoplasty, most commonly known as a nose job, is one of the most well known plastic surgery procedures. However, there is an increasing interest in a less invasive and inexpensive way to modify the nose.

This is where the non-surgical rhinoplasty comes in, also known as liquid rhinoplasty or non-surgical nose job. Many of the same advantages of a surgical rhinoplasty can be accomplished with non-surgical nose treatment using dermal fillers.

An ideal treatment for someone wanting to try out changes without committing to surgery or completely altering the nose with surgery, rather it allows the restoring and enhancing of their natural beauty, stimulating your own collagen in your body.

What is Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

Traditional rhinoplasty, also called a nose job, takes a surgical approach to correct functional issues as well as enhance the appearance of the nose. Non-surgical nose job temporarily addresses aesthetic issues of the nose.

Not only can non-surgical rhinoplasty raise the tip of the nose without incisions, anesthesia, pain and discomfort, or a lengthy recovery, but non-surgical nose job can also help improve the appearance of the nose by:

  • Smoothing small bumps

  • Improving nasal and facial contours

  • Reshaping nasal appearance

  • Making the tip more prominent

  • Increasing nose volume

  • Enhancing symmetry

  • Balancing proportions

Pros:

Non-Invasive: Unlike traditional surgical rhinoplasty, which requires incisions and anesthesia, nose tip rhinoplasty using dermal fillers is non-invasive. The procedure involves injecting fillers into specific areas of the nose to reshape and enhance the appearance of the nasal tip.

Minimal Downtime: Dermal filler nose tip rhinoplasty typically requires minimal downtime compared to surgical rhinoplasty. Most patients can resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure, although some temporary swelling or bruising may occur.

Quick Results: Results from dermal filler nose tip rhinoplasty are often immediate and visible. Patients can see a noticeable improvement in the shape and symmetry of their nasal tip shortly after the procedure.

Adjustable: One advantage of using dermal fillers for nose tip rhinoplasty is that the results are temporary and reversible. If a patient is not satisfied with the outcome or wishes to make further adjustments, additional filler can be injected or the filler can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase.

Cons:

Temporary Results: While dermal fillers provide immediate results, the effects are temporary. Depending on the type of filler used, results typically last anywhere from several months to a year or more. To maintain the desired appearance, patients may need periodic touch-up treatments.

Limited Correction: Dermal fillers are best suited for making minor adjustments to the nasal tip, such as enhancing projection or correcting asymmetry. They may not be able to address more significant issues, such as reducing the size of the nasal tip or correcting structural deformities.

Risk of Complications: Although rare, there are potential risks and complications associated with dermal filler nose tip rhinoplasty, including allergic reactions, infection, and vascular compromise. It's essential to choose a qualified and experienced provider to minimize the risk of adverse events.

Cost: While dermal filler nose tip rhinoplasty is generally less expensive than surgical rhinoplasty, the cost can still add up over time, especially considering that results are temporary and require periodic maintenance treatments.

Is a nonsurgical nose job worth it?

It depends on your cosmetic goals. If you’re wanting a subtle change in your appearance — and you don’t need to improve the function of your nose — then a nonsurgical nose job may be right for you.

However, if you want to make your nose smaller — or if you want to make major changes to your nose’s structure — you may be better suited for traditional rhinoplasty.

The Process

Dr. will first perform a thorough evaluation to determine whether or not a non surgical nose job is the right choice for the desired outcome. If patients are looking for a more dramatic transformation, the facial plastic surgeon might then recommend a traditional Rhinoplasty. If the desired goals and outcomes of the patient can be met with a simple dermal filler injection, the procedure is fairly quick and simple.

The Non surgical nose job can take about 15 to 30 minutes and is usually done as an office procedure. Patients have the opportunity to inform the surgeon exactly what they expect from the treatment while the dermal fillers are being injected.

The 15 minute procedure starts with a topical anesthetic or numbing cream being applied to the top of the nose. This numbing cream is allowed to sit for some time.  After thoroughly cleansing the skin, the surgeon will inject dermal fillers to smooth out sharp angles, restore facial symmetry, change the tip of the nose and make the nose appear straighter.

A series of extremely precise injections will be performed at the desired points along the nose. The amount of dermal filler injected will depend on the type of correction the plastic surgeon is trying to achieve.
